The Marlborough Hospice was built in the grounds of the Wairau Hospital in Blenhem. The initial design accommodated four beds, visitor facilities, nursing support areas and an administration section. The distinct ‘three piers’ design of the building allow for future expansion of the building in three directions as more funding becomes available.
The design had to be sensitive towards terminally ill patients and their families.
Built largely from donations, the project budget was very tight with no allowance for variations. This was a great fundraising effort by the local community.
